Halloween Lantern Design in Cutting Software

Create a Spooky Lantern with PaperCutz Craft Supplies

Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to get into the spirit than by crafting a handmade Halloween lantern? In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to create a simple yet effective lantern that will light up your spooky décor. This project is perfect for anyone looking for a fun, creative activity, whether you're crafting solo or with kids.

Sponsored by PaperCutz, this tutorial uses high-quality cardstock, and tracing paper to create a stunning lantern that will glow with a soft, eerie light. What You’ll Need:

Step 1: Design Your Lantern Shape

First, decide on the shape of your lantern. You can create a classic square or get creative with more intricate designs. For this tutorial, I’ve opted for an arched lantern and added a Halloween-themed scene, all of these elements can be found in Canva. Remember to add tabs to either side so you can make the lantern shape.

Step 2: Cut the Cardstock

Once your design is ready, feed the cardstock into your Silhouette Cameo cutting machine. Cut out the lantern’s structure and any decorative Halloween shapes you’d like to feature. The key here is to ensure the design is large enough for light to shine through once assembled, and that all elements are joined together.

Step 3: Prepare the Tracing Paper

Cut the tracing paper to fit behind the cutout shapes on the cardstock panels. It is easier to cut this to the outline shape of the lantern.

Step 4: Assemble the Lantern

Use the double-sided tape to carefully assemble the lantern panels. Start by gluing the side tabs together to form the circle shape, ensuring the cardstock cutout panels face outward.

Step 5: Add the Candle and Finish

Once the lantern is ready, place the battery-operated candle inside the lantern. This will bring your design to life, casting eerie shadows through the cutouts.
