Christmas is the season of joy, and what better way to spread festive cheer than with handmade cards?
Not only are they more personal than store-bought options, but they also showcase your creativity. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to make your own Christmas cards using specialty cardstock from PaperCutz, Canva, and a Silhouette cutting machine.
Let’s dive into this fun and festive project!
What You’ll Need
Before we get started, gather these materials:
Cardstock: Coloured and specialty finishes like glitter or metallic
Cutting machine: I’m using the Silhouette Cameo, but any cutting machine works.
Adhesives: Double-sided tape, glue, or foam spacers.
Envelopes: For the finished cards
Design Your Cards
Start by creating your design in Canva and Silhouette Studio. Choose festive elements like snowflakes, Christmas trees, or reindeer. Keep your designs simple but elegant, focusing on elements that can be made into paper cut designs on your card.
Once your design is ready, export it as a PNG file and upload it to Silhouette Studio. Adjust the size, add cut lines, and prepare it for your cutting machine.
Cut the Cardstock
Load your Paper Cutz cardstock into the cutting machine. Adjust the settings based on the cardstock type (e.g., blade depth for thicker glitter card). Watch as the intricate design takes shape!
Assemble Your Cards
Carefully remove the cut pieces from the machine. Layer them using foam spacers or glue to create a 3D effect. Attach the card insert to your card outer using double-sided tape.
